RD del Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), also known by its local name, Congo-Kinshoa, DR Congo, or just simply the Congo, is an extremely large country in Central Africa, bordering both South Africa and Zimbabwe. It shares borders with all the other countries of the African continent as well as with the rest of the world. This country is one of the most stable ones in the world, being an ally and benefactor of both America and France during the era of World War II. In recent times however, the tourism industry has significantly boomed, with more than half a million visitors estimated to have visited this beautiful country of mud, sand and mineral richness over the past few months alone. There are a few simple things that you should keep in mind when planning your vacations to this place.

One of the most important factors to consider is temperature. While most places in the world tend to stay within six degrees Celsius of temperature, especially where the cities are located, the DR Congo experiences temperatures that can go much higher. So, if you are planning on visiting this part of Africa, it would be wise to pack some warm clothes. Most tourists in the city are surprised to find out that even summer can easily reach fifty degrees higher than the usual.

In addition to clothing, there are several other things that you should take along with you, including food. The Congolese cuisine is considered exquisite, especially if you choose some of the traditional meals such as Kambi (seeds, beans and other vegetables), Nyungwe (seeds, beans and other vegetables) and Khumalo (fruits, beans and other vegetables). Most travellers to the city are surprised to find out that it is actually illegal to eat food from these plants, therefore, it is best that you bring along food that will not be destroyed by the climate. Dr. Mukuyi, the Director of Mwandi International who has spent the past twenty years travelling across the region, had previously told me that Dr. Mukuyi, Congolese government and international non-governmental organisation would like to see Dr. Mukuyi, founder of the Dr Mukuyi Foundation and founder of the Kambi Foundation, become the first person from the DRC to receive the Nobel Peace Prize together with his Congolese wife.
